Following Cal Crutchlow's comments on impressive MotoGP rookie Maverick Vinales, Danilo Petrucci has also singled out the Suzuki rider for praise.

Asked about who has been the most difficult rider to beat in battles this year, Petrucci said:

"Probably Vinales. In four of the six races I had to battle with him in the last few laps. He rides very clear and he doesn't suffer the tyre consumption. That's why it's hard to keep him behind in the end of the race. My team-mate Yonny is very hard to beat also."

The Pramac Ducati rider also picked out Vinales when asked to name the rider he feels 'has done better so far and why', explaining: "He is a rookie on a rookie bike. I think that Maverick is very strong."

20-year-old Vinales has scored points in all six of his premier-class races on the new GSX-RR, including a seventh place last time at Mugello, to hold ninth in the world championship. Suzuki is expected to get engine upgrades for this weekend in Catalunya.

Petrucci, competing in his first season for Pramac, is currently four points behind the former Moto3 world champion.
