Andrea Dovizioso had a weekend to forget after his second spill in three races left the Ducati rider empty-handed at the Germany MotoGP.

Dovizioso is fifth in the championship after the first nine rounds but is now 31 points behind team-mate Andrea Iannone after Sunday's Sachsenring tumble.

The Italian, who was lying in eighth place when he came off, said: "Very disappointed about the crash. I was pushing really hard at that moment of the race because it is very difficult to overtake riders here and to start from the fourth row was very bad.

"Also at this track it's hard to push because you have to stay at a lot of lean angle. It was difficult for me.

"I was on the limit and I made the entry into turn five a little bit faster and it was enough to lose the front. I'm very sorry to the team because we work very hard and we didn't get any points," he added. "But the point is now to understand for the future."

Ducati will undertake a two-day test this week at Misano, alongside Honda and Suzuki, when Dovizioso says the team will try 'something big' on the set-up of the GP15 ahead of round ten at Indianapolis on August 9.

"We have two days of testing at Misano, Wednesday and Thursday, and it will be very important for us.

"Because in two days you have time and you can try something big to understand the way, have more feedback than on a race weekend.

"So I'm really happy about the test we will have because we have to improve the bike."

"In the last three races our speed wasn't good enough and in Indianapolis it will be very important to understand our speed," he said.

"That track looks like it will be better for us and that speed will be more the reality of our bike and can give us the reality of our situation.

"When you are working with the engineers and Gigi [Dall'Igna] you never know what you will try, because they are working day and night and sometimes the new parts arrived the same day you arrive at the test or the race weekend.

"Still we didn't make the meeting for the test. We will have something. But also to try something quite big on the set-up is enough to understand for the future. So it is not just about chassis or something big," added Dovizioso.

"There are many things we have to work on. Many points. Also with any new parts, two days is long enough get good feedback."

Dovi is focused on improving in the second half of the season and says the MotoGP summer break is 'not important to me'.

"Maybe [chance to restart mentally], but I mean it is not something very important to me. If I raced next weekend or in three weeks it is not really a problem," he said.

"I'm very determined and focused on the future so it's not a problem about that. I'm very happy to make the test at Misano."
