Andrea Iannone continued his run of finishing each MotoGP race of 2015 inside the top six at Indianapolis but admitted he had been riding at more than 100 percent to do so.

As had been the case in Assen and the Sachsenring, Iannone comprehensively outperformed his more experienced team-mate Andrea Dovizioso but was unable to live with the 'Factory' Hondas and Yamahas.

Fourth at the close of lap one, Iannone soon fell behind Valentino Rossi and could only watch on as the gap to fourth place increased. From there his attentions turned to holding off Bradley Smith, whose harder rear option tyre was of benefit in the final seven laps.

"The feeling is like really difficult, because is not an easy race, I push for every race at 100 percent and so at the moment more at 100 percent," said Iannone. "But OK, this is the race, and I want to keep the maximum, and I'm happy for this, but not the result. So I don't know why now in these last four races the gap is increased than before three or four races [ago]. But the situation is this, and I want to focus to work with my time to improve the situation and with Ducati.

"Bradley have tyres which are one step more hard, no? And so I in the last seven laps, the situation is really difficult for me, especially on the left side of the bike, the grip is really less, and long corners have a lot of slides. For me it is impossible to control this. But Bradley, I try to control for all the race but he come to me, and he close the gap, and so is not easy to stay in front of him. But I try my best, and finish in fifth position I think is the maximum for today."

Asked whether his main problem on Sunday stemmed from having to choose the medium rear tyre, Iannone said the selection was only a disadvantage in the closing stages of the race.

"I think with the harder tyre the problem don't change. [It] Help a little bit more for the last six, seven laps, but I think it don't close the gap with the best riders.

"I don't know. I want to say the main problem, but I don't say. For sure I want to talk about with the engineers to analyse whole for the future, because I want to improve absolutely this situation."
