Jorge Lorenzo replicated his heroics of Mugello and Brno by setting a stunning late lap in FP3 to put clear daylight between himself and Marc Marquez on Saturday morning at the British MotoGP.

The championship leader's fastest time was a full half second under Dani Pedrosa's two-year old lap record at the end of a session which saw each of the four home riders impress.

Repsol Honda star Marquez started proceedings off in ominous fashion by dipping under the lap record on his first lap with a 2m 1.888s lap. But the reigning world champion was unable to lower than time, his late attempts frustrated as Lorenzo forged clear.

Behind the front two, late improvements and a soft tyre combination helped Ducati's Andrea Dovizioso jump to third, which pushed Dani Pedrosa back to fourth.

Sitting strongly inside the top six through the majority of the session, Scott Redding was in danger of missing the cut late on as he slipped outside the top ten for Marc VDS Honda.

However, the 22-year old jumped to fifth on his final lap, meaning he automatically qualifies for Q2 for only the second time in 2015.

Tech 3 Yamaha's Bradley Smith and Movistar Yamaha's Valentino Rossi - tied with Lorenzo for the points lead - followed in sixth and seventh. LCR Honda's Cal Crutchlow finished eighth after spending much of the session outside the top twelve.

Eugene Laverty continued his impressive free practice pace, ending FP3 in 15th and the top 'Open' rider for the Aspar team.
