MotoGP Silverstone: First Open pole for Loris Baz

"Too bad I made a small mistake on my fast lap, but for the first time this season I got the Open pole" - Loris Baz.
Rookie Loris Baz qualified as the top Open class rider at Silverstone and will start the British MotoGP from 15th place.

"So far it has been a great weekend,” said the Forward Yamaha rider. “I was immediately fast and after the changes made in FP3 I was able to find a good feeling and a good pace. Too bad I made a small mistake on my fast lap, but for the first time this season I got the Open pole.”

The Frenchman has been a fan of Silverstone since his Superbike days, where he claimed his first WSBK win in 2012.

“I miss the old tracks,” he told “Now it's not easy to find a track like this where you enjoy the whole track. Now the track are made more for cars, so you have slow corners which is not so much fun. Here you have everything. Some fast corners, slow ones, change of direction. That's why it's one of my favourite tracks.”

After a dry practice and qualifying, rain remains a threat for Sunday.

“I enjoy riding in the dry because you feel the performance and grip more, but you can always make something special in the wet,” Baz said. “It's not easy with the Open bike in the dry. I'll take whatever weather we have and hope I can make a good race on Sunday.

“The target is the same as always, to be the top Open bike and then let's see. We are working hard to be in front of the Avintias, close to the Pramacs and take some more points for the championship.”

Despite Forward missing Indianapolis, Baz is second in the Open class standings, five points behind Avintia's Hector Barbera, who starts Sunday's race from 17th.
