MotoGP Silverstone: Kent: Finally we’ve got good feeling with the bike
Danny Kent is relieved to claim a front row start, has set up bike that works well under braking as he anticipates a big fight for the race win
Danny Kent believes he is 'ready for a good race' after he qualified third for his home grand prix at Silverstone.
Having missed the majority of FP1 after a machine problem, the championship leader admitted he has been 'playing catch up' all weekend while focusing on setting up his machine to work well in a group battle.
The 21-year old feels his machine is currently working well under braking so as to 'be ready for the last lap' as he anticipates a large leading group battling for the podium around Silverstone's speedy, open curves.
“We started the weekend on the wrong foot missing FP1, so basically all weekend we've been playing catch up,” said Kent. “Big thanks to the team obviously, because this track's not easy. We've had to work hard to find a good feeling with the bike, and finally we've got it.
“We put ourselves on the front row ready for a good race tomorrow. I think they'll be a big fight, so we've been working on a bike ready for the last lap, so I'm confident on the brakes, and I have that feeling, so we're ready for tomorrow.
“The plan is always to get away, but Silverstone's going to be difficult with that long straight, maybe we wake up tomorrow and there's a lot of headwinds, and that's going to make the job even harder.
“There's a lot of riders out there who've got a strong pace, Navarro, Antonelli, for sure Bastianini's going to be strong tomorrow, so it's not going to be easy, but we'll give it our best shot.
“We've had dry [weather] all weekend, so if it's dry, it makes it a bit easier for the riders. But if it is wet, it's the same for everyone out there. It's been dry for everyone, it's been dry for me. But I don't mind racing in the rain, I'm English, born in the rain, so you always have to prepare for both weather conditions.”
