Fourth fastest on Saturday and seemingly unable to match the pace of Marc Marquez and Jorge Lorenzo, the weather may have handed Valentino Rossi a reprieve for Sunday's British MotoGP as he led the wet morning warm-up session.

Early morning rain and steady drizzle left the Silverstone circuit soaked for the 20-minute session. Rossi shot to the top of the standings with his final lap, bringing the grandstands to their feet.

Following Rossi at the close of the session, Danilo Petrucci slotted into second in a session which saw lap times some 18 to 20 seconds off those posted in dry conditions on Saturday.

Behind the Italian duo, Marc Marquez looked to have topped the session until Rossi's late time. At that point the pole-sitter was some 0.5s clear of Cal Crutchlow, who eventually dropped to fourth.

Believed to be Marquez's only legitimate challenger in the dry, Lorenzo was another to set impressive times in adverse conditions. The Majorcan eventually ended the session fifth.
