Andrea Dovizioso wasn't entirely satisfied at the close of the first day of free practice at Misano despite outpacing team-mate Andrea Iannone on his way to setting the fourth fastest time.

The Italian, who hails from less than an hour's drive from the Misano World Circuit, indentified excessive movement from the rear tyre as an issue that held him back throughout the day.

One of several riders to test here in July, Dovizioso pinpointed some electronics adjustments and a change in wind direction as reason for not enjoying a perfect feeling aboard the updated GP15.

"It was quite strange," said the 29-year old. "My feeling on the bike wasn't good or how I expected. Still we don't know the reason exactly, if it's just the feeling is different from the test or is something about the bike. There are still some things that we need to improve and fix but we are talking about small things about electronics.

"Also the wind was quite strong this afternoon and in the opposite way. Normally in Misano the wind is in the opposite way and it change the braking point, the line. So I'm a little bit confused with that. Normally it goes in the opposite way of the main straight.

Track temperatures were close to 20 degrees down compared to when riders from Honda, Ducati and Suzuki tested here in July but Dovizioso was at a loss to explain the behaviour of the rear of his bike.

"The bumps are the same. It's also difficult to ride compared to the past - I mean the grip is better and we are faster - but how the rear tyre works is not so good compared to the past. In the past the rear never dropped in the race or practice. In the test and also today how the rear tyre works is in a bad way. It makes two lines in the traction area and when this happens the entry the bike is moving and it's difficult to enter aggressive to push.

"In the traction we lose grip and we have movement. These are small things but if we have them in every corner make the difference. I don't know how it will be for the race. To do three or four laps and start and stop it's quite bad. Normally in the race if you don't stop it's better but tomorrow I hope the track will be better."

Dovizioso also confirmed he will race the medium compound rear tyre and will test the hard front before qualifying on Saturday. He feels his final time, which was 0.4s slower than Jorge Lorenzo's best lap of the day, was a positive in spite of his problems.

"I'm not worried because with not a really good feeling we weren't very slow. This is positive. We have to understand how to fix this. I want to come back to the feeling I had in the test because I couldn't make a good lap. I always make a small mistake in many corners. Anyway fourth is good for us and we have the possibility to improve for tomorrow."
