Moto2 Aragon: Zarco gets first title shot

Johann Zarco will have the first of five chances to wrap-up the 2015 Moto2 title this weekend at Aragon.

Since taking the lead of the standings at round three in Argentina, Zarco has extended his advantage at each event and is presently 93 points clear of reigning champion Tito Rabat.

For the Frenchman to become a world champion on Sunday he must outscore Rabat by at least seven points and not lose more than ten points to Alex Rins.

"I go to Aragon without thinking about the possibility of the title, because although this is the goal for the year, I have a big advantage and it is important to win it, not where I do it," Zarco said. "If I see that I have a chance and I'm strong, I'll go for the win. I will try to be calm if I'm not the strongest, but I am convinced that the team will prepare the best bike possible for me.

"It's a track where I managed to get on the podium last year, and I've had other good races there, so I have good memories of Aragon. It is a circuit I like; fairly new, fast, with very interesting corners and where it can be quite windy. I will try to be calm, fight for the victory if possible and, if not, pick up points for the championship."

The last time a French rider won the intermediate grand prix title was Olivier Jacque in 2000.

After he wins the title can we start bringing in the WTCC rules and add some weight to his bike? Not even Marquez was this good. (Although to be fair Marquez did not have the best bike in the field.) If not for a technical failure in the first race Zarco would have won the championship alreay.
