Moto2: Tech 3 confirms Vierge for 206

"I am super happy to stay one more year with the Tech3 Racing Team" - Xavi Vierge.
Tech 3 has confirmed its first Moto2 rider for 2016 by announcing that Xavi Vierge will remain with the team.

The young Spaniard joined Tech 3 in place of Ricky Cardus after the summer break, claiming a best race finish of 22nd - a result Tech 3 hope he can improve on at Aragon this weekend, the first Moto2 circuit he already knows.

“I am super happy to stay one more year with the Tech3 Racing Team,” Vierge said. “Ever since I started riding motorcycles I have dreamed of competing in the world championship, so after achieving this now, I have fulfilled the first part of a life long ambition.

“I have learnt a lot already due to the nature of this tough championship and of course, there is still a lot more knowledge to gain, but I am very pleased to have the chance to do this with a team as experienced as the Tech3 Racing Team and Herve. I must thank them as well as the sponsors for the faith they have put in me and I will give my all to deliver some top results to pay them back.

“We still have five more races to go in 2015 and I will continue to learn as much as I can in order to be as ready as possible for my first complete season in the Moto2 class next year. I am looking forward to the challenge and I am confident that we can produce some strong results together.”

Team manager Herve Poncharal hopes that Vierge can follow in the wheel-tracks of Bradley Smith.

"I am delighted to announce that Xavi Vierge will be part of the Moto2 Tech3 Racing Team for the 2016 season. We have been following him for quite a few years and he has been doing really well in the CEV with Targo Bank CNS Motorsport where he has won races and is still in contention of obtaining the title.

"Due to these great performances on last year's Mistral 610, we gave him the opportunity to start competing in the Moto2 World Championship at Indianapolis. Even though there has been a little bit of bad luck, we have been very impressed by his potential and maturity for such a young rider. Therefore, we are sure that he will grow and become a top MotoGP rider in the future.

"What I like about him is his professional approach to racing, yet also his enthusiasm for what he is doing with our team. He is open to everything and most significantly, he trusts the team and believes in our technical package.

"For me, it's a great feeling having a rider like this with us and it is like we are starting a new chapter. I will always remember Bradley joining us in 2011 and now we can see where he is and how far he has come after finishing in 2nd at Misano and running strongly in the championship standings.

"So we hope that Xavi can follow in Bradley's footsteps and it would be like a dream for us if it happened. Anyway, he is our new protégé and we will do everything we can to help him grow. We are feeling very positive and we look forward to continuing our work together."

Vierge currently rides alongside Marcel Schrotter at Tech 3.

*2016 not 206 Perhaps Herve knows something the rest of don't but to date this Mistral project has been something of a disaster. That team could and should be running at the front in this class.
