Andrea Dovizioso is seeking an improvement in braking stability with his factory Ducati as the Italian rider finished fourth quickest at Motegi in free practice on Friday.
Dovizioso ended FP2 just over a tenth down on team-mate Andrea Iannone in third, clocking his fastest lap in 1m 45.059s – three tenths off the top time set by Jorge Lorenzo on the Movistar Yamaha.
Sixth in the morning in FP1, Dovizioso moved up the time sheets in the afternoon, using the extra soft rear Bridgestone tyre on the GP15 to post his best time.
“I am pleased because today we went well straight away, and more importantly, we managed to improve in both sessions,” said Dovizioso.
“My GP15 is a bit more stable under braking, but it's not enough for the moment and so we are going to have to try and make another step forward in this direction for tomorrow.
“In any case our race pace is quick and this is vital in view of Sunday.”
