MotoGP Japan: Rossi extends best wishes to injured de Angelis

'It was a bad moment and difficult also to keep the concentration, but the most important thing of today is that he is quite okay because the crash was very bad' - Valentino Rossi.
Valentino Rossi has passed on his best wishes to Alex de Angelis after the Ioda Racing rider was injured in a serious incident during the final free practice session at the Japanese MotoGP.

De Angelis, from San Marino, came off midway through FP4 at high speed between turns 9 and 10, causing the session to be red-flagged.

He was reported to be conscious and breathing at the scene and was airlifted to Dokkyo Hospital in Mibu for further examination and treatment.

A statement on the official MotoGP website said: “Alex underwent a CT scan and has been diagnosed with lung contusion after preliminary analysis, further checks revealed several rib fractures.

“A spinal CT scan revealed fractures to the T7-T8-T9 vertebrae, a body fracture to L4 and trasversal process fractures to T2,4 and 8.”

Rossi, who passed the scene of the incident, said it was a 'bad moment'.

“I think we have to say good luck to [Alex] De Angelis because everybody was very scared,” said the 36-year-old.

“I passed through there and it was a bad moment and difficult also to keep the concentration, but the most important thing of today is that he is quite okay because the crash was very bad.”

Thank you to Vale, it is kind for him to say these words. I figured he had seen something when he looked as though he was describing an accident to the other members of his team. He must have been pretty shaken up to have witnessed it. No, Alex is not 'okay' but we know what was meant. At one point people must have thought things were worse, when the sheets were put round him. Best wishes to Alex and hoping for a full recovery.
