MotoGP Malaysia: Bautista looks to kick on in Sepang

Alvaro Bautista says Aprilia Racing Team Gresini is to keep chipping away as it hunts a successful end to its first year back in MotoGP.
Alvaro Bautista says Aprilia Racing Team Gresini is to keep chipping away as it hunts a successful end to its first year back in MotoGP.

The Spanish rider has continued to pick up points at almost every race since joining the Italian manufacturer and has been satisfied by the progress the team has made over the course of the 2015 season.

Bautista is in a confident mood heading to Sepang for the penultimate round of the year having enjoyed a series of winter tests there and will once again look to pick up points.

“We lapped here with the RS-GP during the winter tests, so we'll have some points of reference that mean we won't have to start from zero setting up the bike as we have on the other tracks,” Bautista said. “Sepang is a very demanding track. There are slow turns, fast turns and very demanding braking sections, as well as the usual Malaysian heat. It will be a hard race, but I like this track a lot and I've always done well here.

“Plus we are coming here with a lot of motivation after the good result at Phillip Island in terms of race performance. Malaysia is a chance to try to improve even more.”

Bautista has celebrated victories on two occasions in Malaysia and both on Aprilia machinery; in 2006 in the 125cc class on his way to the world title that season and in 2008 in the 250cc category.

Alvaro needs to do better in qualifying, he is getting beaten by bradl every time over one lap. He has had the upper hand over Stefan in terms of race pace though and is finishing in the points every race. If he can sort out his qualifying, he might as well fetch more points for the team.
