With Valentino Rossi accusing Marc Marquez of conspiring against him in the closing rounds of the season - a claim Marquez flatly denies - it was inevitable the Honda rider would suffer to some degree in this year's Star of the Year poll.

That aside, 2015 was certainly Marquez's toughest yet in the premier-class - less wins, podiums, poles, fastest laps and points than either of his previous seasons - and the first time he hadn't won a title since 2011.

A first corner mistake at the Qatar season opener would later be followed by a string of DNFs as Marquez battled rear wheel slides on corner entry, plus aggressive power delivery on corner exit with the latest RC213V.

Engine character was to blame but the ban on in-season development meant Marquez and Honda spent the rest of the year trying to indirectly fix the issues. A switch to his 2014 chassis at Assen proved a notable turning point, although the race will be remembered for the last turn clash with Rossi.

The Dutch TT was the second of three occasions the pair would collide this season and the only time Marquez emerged on two wheels, although he clearly felt hard done by when Rossi kept the win after cutting the track. The first incident had been in Argentina, while the third would be the infamous Sepang encounter.

But there were also some notable highs, Marquez proving his raw speed with five race wins, the last and most dramatic coming at Phillip Island when he snatched victory from Jorge Lorenzo with just a few corners to go.

Despite that pass, a few days later Rossi accused Marquez of playing with his race pace to try and assist Lorenzo, plus other verbal jabs. That set the scene for their Malaysian showdown, which left Marquez on the ground and Rossi starting last in Valencia.

Will Marquez be surprised by his score? It seems not, this was his reply when asked to give himself a mark out of 10:

“6. We cannot be happy about this year. Okay, maybe we were not in the best situation at the beginning of the season with the bike and everything, but then also I did a few mistakes. So 6 or 7 is enough.”

The double MotoGP champion won the fan vote in 2013 and was runner-up last year with a score of 9.0.

Hmmm. One of the best riders of ALL TIME, sees his popularity shot down because of his fixation on Rossi. And, let's be clear, it started well BEFORE Rossi's accusations. Marquez accepts losing to Jorge, but hates losing to Rossi. Result, when Vale has the pace, he would crash because of this obsession. It started with Misano LAST YEAR, when Rossi took the lead. Crash, finishes 15th. Australia, crash when Rossi was reducing the gap. And it continued THIS year : Argentina, when Rossi passed him, Italian GP, again after Rossi passed him, same again at the next GP when Rossi was 2 bikes ahead of him, leading to Marquez saying that in future he would accept 2nd place if he could not win !!! So what did he do next, Assen and that kamikaze move on ... Rossi ! Was that the end of it ? Of course not : Silverstone - crashed while trying to keep up with Rossi's pace in the rain. And then, finally, his Sepang race madness following Rossi's correct accusations. Leading to ... Valencia

Long list of villans, Marc is the latest... for most of the fans this sport is still all about one man... JL's rocket first few laps vs Rossi's consistency across every conditions,, I was waiting to see which one prevails but the clown decided to ruin it,, For guys who moan about Marc has the right to fight let me repeat,, everybody has their own right to fight, but in his fight with Rossi, his intentions to influence the title was Cleary visible atleast in last two races...
