Moto2: Kent, Oliveira start 2016 testing

Leopard's all-star Moto2 line-up of Danny Kent and Miguel Oliveira begin 2016 testing.
The new Leopard Racing Moto2 team completed its first 2016 laps with Moto3 champion Danny Kent and new signing Miguel Oliveira during a private two-day test at Catalunya.

The former Moto3 rivals had tried a 2015 Kalex at the end of last year, with the Barcelona outing allowing them to start work on 2016 machinery ahead of the first official test in March.

"It was good to get back in the saddle after two months,” said Kent, returning to a class he raced in during 2013. “This first step is important because it is a completely new experience, both for the team and for the bike.

“More than lap times we have focused on the feeling with the bike and its set-up. They were two positive days, I found my pace slowly, but it was a shame about the poor conditions: with a dirty track yesterday and today's strong wind. We will try to improve from the next test."

Rookie Oliveira, arriving at Leopard from Red Bull KTM, focussed on tuning his riding style to the handling and power of the 600cc machine.

"We focused on my riding style, to try to understand better what is the reaction of the bike to the changes we made,” explained the Portuguese. “We are working on entry and output curve, Moto2 changes a lot compared to the Moto3: it is heavier on the brakes, more challenging to be run.

“We just have to make so many kilometers to collect information. But in the end it's more fun: this bike is faster, has more acceleration, moves more, but is really nice to slide it out of the corners."

No lap times were released by Leopard, which will now head for a further private test at Valencia.
