New Leopard Racing signing Fabio Quartararo has made his KTM debut during a private test at Catalunya.
Riding alongside new team-mates Joan Mir and Andrea Locatelli, the former Estrella Galicia 0,0 Honda rider spent two days on track in Barcelona. Leopard, which won last year's Moto3 title with Danny Kent, has also switched from Honda to KTM machinery.
"Yesterday was my first time riding the KTM: it went quite well, but the conditions of the track and the strong wind did not allow me to express myself better,” Quartararo said. “I am adapting quickly, taking every moment to learn something more about this bike, although the conditions are not ideal.
“We expect the other days of testing to improve and gain more confidence. The feeling with the engineers and mechanics are important. In these two days we have made progress, but I think that in Valencia we can improve a lot. "
The 16-year-old French star claimed two podiums and two poles during an injured interrupted debut grand prix season.
2016 rookie Mir declared: "We tried different solutions; I think we already have a good set up for the next test on Thursday in Valencia. I have already noticed many improvements compared to yesterday: especially on the front, in and through the corners. We must continue in this direction."
Locatelli, arriving at Leopard from Gresini, was making his comeback from injury.
"Yesterday was the first time I rode in the saddle after several months since my injury. For me everything is new: the bike, the team and the environment. I am adapting slowly and I'm taking confidence,” he said.
“Yesterday we worked a lot on engine braking because it was a little hard to put it in the corner. Today, however, we have already made a big step forward. We remain focused on the setting; we are trying different solutions to get out of fast corners better and push immediately. Perhaps it is moving a bit too much at the front, while there is traction."
The Leopard Moto3 trio were sharing the track with Leopard's new Moto2 project for Kent and Miguel Oliveira.
