MotoGP: Suter working with Ducati?

Suter working with Ducati on Desmosedici MotoGP chassis?
Suter is reported to 'have built' the chassis for Ducati's latest MotoGP racer.

According to, the Swiss company had first been contacted to assist the Italian factory by former Ducati Corse general manager Bernhard Gobmeier, in 2013.

That collaboration went cold when Gobmeier was replaced by Gigi Dall'Igna the following year, but the Italian is now said to have re-established the chassis relationship for 2016.

"I can not talk about it," Dall'Igna told Speedweek.

While Ducati built its first aluminium MotoGP frame for 2012, having previously used steel and carbon fibre, Suter Racing Technology (founded by ex-racer Eskil Suter) has used the technology for a variety of grand prix projects since the late 1990s.

Those include the Muz-Weber that took two poles with Jurgen van den Goorbergh in 1999, the Foggy Petronas WSBK machine from 2002-2005, the factory Kawasaki MotoGP machine from 2004-2006, the 2007 Ilmor and the 2012 Suter-BMW CRT machine.

But Suter's biggest success has been in the single-engine Moto2 class, where it's chassis skills were proven with three consecutive constructors' titles and one riders' crown, before losing its market share to Kalex.

When asked to comment on the Ducati report, Suter Racing Technology told

“We fulfil many engineering projects for different clients in the automotive and motorcycle sector. Please understand that we can't comment on any rumour or any brand names from our client list.”

Some people really seem to have an irrationally hard on dislike for Ducati. Ducati is not as successful as HRC or Yamaha. Why does that make them so angry? Despite being bigger than Ducati Suzuki, Kawasaki and Aprilia have had even less success in MotoGP than Ducati. Beating HRC and Yamaha and their riders isn't easy. Furthermore their commitment to MotoGP and motorcycle racing in general hasn't been as good as Ducati's. Ducati is the only motorcycle manufacturer that has continuously and consistently participated in both WSBK and MotoGP from inception. Not even HRC and Yamaha can say that. So what if Ducati is employing Suter to help with the chassis? All the manufacturers employ outside firms for components and technology to some extent or another. HRC employ Ohlins and Brembo for suspension and brake components. Why? Because they're better at making suspension and brake systems than HRC. Ducati's specialty is engines. Given the problems HRC had last year and supposedly still have this year with the RC213V's engine perhaps they should consider hiring Ducati to help with the engine.
