Injured Petrucci to miss Qatar MotoGP test

“Danilo's accident is too big a price to pay”
Danilo Petrucci's Pramac Ducati team has confirmed that the injured Italian will miss the final MotoGP pre-season test in Qatar.

Petrucci broke the second, third and fourth metacarpal in his right hand during a 'strange crash' at the fast Turn 8 (Hayshed) on an out-lap, during the final afternoon of testing at Phillip Island.

The #9 may need surgery, but either way 'he will miss [the] next and last pre-season test' from March 2-4.

“It was not an easy test. The weather conditions did not help us working on set up and Danilo's accident is too big a price to pay,” said team manager Francesco Guidotti. It's never the right time to fall and hurt but surely this is a particularly sensitive time. It is frustrating, we know. But we must look to the future with strength and determination.

“We have to focus on the Danilo's recovery, the whole team is with him. We are confident that he will recover soon: the hope is that he will be on track for the GP in Qatar but now is too early to have a clear scenario.”

The season-opening Qatar race will be held from March 17-20.

Petrucci - fastest on day one in Australia - was among eleven riders to fall on Friday, including MotoGP champions Jorge Lorenzo and Marc Marquez. Many felt that cold conditions in the afternoon were a factor, combined with front tyres that were perhaps a little on the hard side.

Petrucci was twelfth fastest on Friday, but only 0.774s from leader Marquez. Team-mate Scott Redding was eleventh quickest.

Really bad luck for Danilo. And yes let's hope he gets fit and back to it as quickly as possible. I agree with Chebrill that it is disgusting that someone should apparently want a rider to get hurt. It seems to be a growing mentality in some fans who are so obsessed with their rider that they literally do hate the others. This seems to be so especially in the situation where their rider is slower than a hated rider. It is sad but unfotuneately ita the reality nowadays.
