Sam Lowes dipped under his own lap record at the Losail International Circuit in Qatar to top the Moto2 combined times following a final three-day test ahead of the opening round of the 2016 World Championship next Sunday.
Lowes signed off in style under the floodlights on the Team Federal Oil Gresini Kalex, lapping in 1m 59.405s to narrowly better his previous benchmark of 1m 59.423s.
It was the perfect parting shot by the 25-year-old, who has been consistently fast throughout pre-season testing and the British rider is ready to race.
“I'm really happy because it's been another really good day,” Lowes said on Sunday. “We actually tried more things today on the bike than in all the other days, so it was really interesting because we had to find a good direction and I think that we have already done the big part of the work.
“We are ready and I'm feeling happy, so I can't wait for the race weekend – for sure it's going to be a good race. We will keep working in free practice and in qualifying, then finally we will see how it goes.”
Lowes' scorching lap was two-tenths faster than Thomas Luthi (Garage Plus Interwetten Kalex), with James Folger third overall on the Dynavolt Intact GP Kalex, 0.247s off the Briton's time.
