MotoGP Argentina: Iannone nicks top spot from Pedrosa in wet warm-up

As riders sample Michelin's rain tyres for the first time during a race weekend, Andrea Iannone is fastest from Dani Pedrosa at a soaking Termas de Rio Hondo.
Michelin personnel's prayers were partly answered on Sunday morning at Argentina as rain left riders with no choice but to take to the Termas de Rio Hondo with wet tyres for MotoGP warm-up.

With controversy and concerns surrounding the use of the firm's medium and hard dry rear compounds, the extended session passed mainly without incident, as Andrea Iannone narrowly topped Dani Pedrosa at the top of the time sheets.

On Saturday night, race direction planned an added session for riders to test an emergency dry rear compound in light of the incident with Scott Redding in FP4, which was then deemed unnecessary.

Thus riders were granted 30 minutes to sample Michelin's two wet compounds, with Iannone's fastest time of 1m 49.177s just nine seconds slower than his best lap from FP4.

Pedrosa was just six thousandths of a second slower in second with Marc Marquez just 0.024s back of his team-mate in third. Hector Barbera completed an exceptionally tight top-four with a lap that was just 0.082s off Iannone's best.

The 2015 British Grand Prix would suggest both Valentino Rossi and Andrea Dovizioso could be main players in a potentially wet race. The two Italians were fifth and sixth, with Yonny Hernandez's underlining the Ducati GP14.2's wet-weather capabilities in seventh.

The impressive Jack Miller was eighth, ahead of former team-mate Cal Crutchlow and Loris Baz. Scott Redding in eleventh was a place ahead of reigning world champion Jorge Lorenzo.
