MotoGP Americas: Espargaro fired up after Barbera clash

'The race was certainly a tough one and even though I am pleased that I got sixth, I feel I could have been more competitive' - Pol Espargaro.
Pol Espargaro says the outcome of the Argentina MotoGP has left him more fired up than ever to challenge for top satellite honours in the third round of the championship this weekend in the USA.

Espargaro finished sixth at the Termas de Rio Hondo circuit after dropping back from fourth place on the final lap when he was passed by Avintia Racing's Hector Barbera and Ireland's Eugene Laverty on the Aspar Ducati.

The Spaniard later hit out at some of the overtakes following an incident with Barbera on the final lap, when the duo collided, and feels he was robbed of the chance of a better result.

“After the outcome last week, I am more determined than ever to get back to where we need to be, which is fighting for and winning the top independent team contest,” said Espargaro, looking ahead to his return to the Circuit of the Americas in Austin.

“We, as riders, dealt with a lot in Argentina, which included the dirty track surface, the weather as well as the tyres. The race was certainly a tough one and even though I am pleased that I got sixth, I feel I could have been more competitive.

“That is what I plan to do in Texas which is a circuit that I enjoy racing at,” he added.

“The ascent to the first corner is something special and always breath-taking to ride on a MotoGP bike. However, we are there to gain a strong result more than enjoy the track, and after the disappointing time that we had last season, I am highly motivated about riding to a good position this year.”

Yearby23: You're gonna get beaten by Barbera.
Exactly, Barbera is an experienced, feisty campaigner who had to deal with adversity and bad bikes along the way. He has a chip on his shoulder that Pol who always had it easy does not have. Put Barbera on a factory Ducati and he'd be right up there
