16-year-old rookie Nicolo Bulega claimed his first grand prix pole, in the Moto3 class, on Saturday at Jerez.
Riding for the Sky VR46 team, the Italian thus joined team boss Valentino Rossi in the post-qualifying press conference - Rossi having taken pole in MotoGP
“So we are all very, very happy to have Nicolo in our team - but also in the [VR46] academy - because he was our bet two years ago,” Rossi said.
“We decide to bring him to Spain for the CEV, so we know that he has great talent, but after when you arrive at the world championship it is always a lot more difficult than you expect.
“But to make the pole position after four races is for sure something special. So everybody in the team hopes he will continue like this.”
Bulega, who won last year's FIM CEV Moto3 Junior World Championship, has taken a best finish of sixth so far this season. Jerez is actually his fifth grand prix event, having made a wild-card appearance at Valencia 2015.
Rossi claimed his first grand prix pole in his eleventh race.
