MotoGP France: Brivio confirms Zarco Suzuki 'option' for 2017

'We have some sort of option… basically if we will do something together, we will make an agreement' - Davide Brivio.
Suzuki MotoGP team manager Davide Brivio has confirmed an option on Johann Zarco for 2017.

Moto2 world champion Zarco has a test lined up on the GSX-RR and Brivio admitted there was a chance the Frenchman could be Suzuki-mounted next season.

Zarco revealed that he is also set to compete in this year's Suzuka 8-Hours race for Suzuki.

Brivio told Crash.net at Le Mans on Thursday: “We have some idea to let him test the bike and we are trying to find the right time, the right moment. So we will have this opportunity sooner or later.”

Asked if Suzuki had an agreement with Zarco already, he added: “We have some sort of option… basically if we will do something together, we will make an agreement.”

Zarco, meanwhile, said it was his hope to follow fellow Moto2 rider Jonas Folger into the premier class in 2017, although his first aim is to retain the Moto2 world crown.

“It's the plan, yes and I got opportunities already last year but we just say I would repeat [another season in Moto2]. I would like to be in MotoGP next year, but first being champion another time.

“[Dani] Pedrosa did it and [Jorge] Lorenzo did it two times in this middle category, so first of all I will focus here, do my best work and if I can be good again in Moto2, it will be great for next year.

"It's a nice opportunity to test the Suzuki with them in Japan and also they asked me if I can do the 8-Hours Endurance race at Suzuka. I've never been, so I say yes because I like to train on the road bike and it's good to try this race and be part of Suzuki for this," he added.

"I hope to be with Suzuki in 2017 and it's part of the job this summer to prove what I can do and take this dream to go in MotoGP because Jonas [Folger] says it's a dream and for sure, it is a dream.

"We will test with Suzuki this summer but it doesn't mean that I have a place with them for next year."

Zarco is currently third in the championship ahead of his home race, 16 points behind Britain's Sam Lowes, and the Ajo Motorsport rider is full of desire to retain the title.

“It's always competitive in Moto2 and I'm learning a lot. Being champion in 2015 has been fantastic but now it's another target to be champion again and win races,” he said.

“When it's difficult, you learn the most because when everything is going well you want to learn, but you are thinking, 'what was good, what was wrong – maybe nothing is wrong'. But when you are doing wrong, maybe you understand better.

“It is a good experience and I am working hard and thinking hard to be champion again.”

Vilas46: Motogp has been building and building... We can have a really great season for Next Year with so many good riders on the table and more manufacturers.. Its like the vibe of the hold days are coming back... I hope i can see Zarco at Suzuki but its a big fight for the factory seats we never know what can happen..
Zarco could be the perfect fit. Fast, consistent, clever, doesn't crash a lot, a very good mentality...
