Jorge Lorenzo was feeling much more confident with Michelin's newest rear tyres at Le Mans in France, where the reigning MotoGP world champion posted the fastest time on Friday.

Lorenzo aired his concerns over the excessive rear wheel-spin encountered by the premier class riders on the main straight at Jerez in the previous round and Michelin arrived at Le Mans with three new options, including soft and medium compounds in one construction - close to what was available previously - and a new soft compound rear.

The new rear soft, which has a 'less stiff construction', is reportedly the option used by Movistar Yamaha rider Lorenzo on Friday when he posted his fastest lap in FP2 in 1m 32.830s, heading Ducati's Andrea Iannone by 0.339s.

"Today has been great. We were competitive from the beginning, with the base set-up you start is always nice," said Lorenzo.

"Sometimes you have some problems and you have to work quite a lot to feel comfortable. But from the morning we've been fast and in the afternoon even faster and with the last [new] tyre that Michelin brought here, we were quicker than the rest - so a good day.

"For the [wheel-spin] problems in the straight, with the other tyres the bike is moving lot in sixth gear. With the last [tyre] we solved particularly all these problems.

"We are happy because Michelin is working hard, and fast, to give us better tyres after the problems in Jerez."

Deny: Tires have this season very different.behaviour. I am strong believer that the situation will gradually stabilize. Michelin needs some time and the same is valid for riders.[\blockquote]

Well they could start by getting their tires consistently round (seems VR got a square one today).

Lorenzo's got his perfect tire. I wonder if the next race he's going to "thumb down" again...
