Danilo Petrucci delivered 'one of his best' MotoGP races in front of his home fans at Mugello on Sunday.
The Italian crossed the finish line in eighth and just over one-second from top satellite rider Bradley Smith (Tech 3 Yamaha), in what was Petrucci's second race of the season after hand injuries forced him out of the opening four events.
“This morning I did a good lap in warm-up so I was positive, but I was absolutely sacred about my right arm because yesterday after 3-4 laps I lost all the power,” revealed the Pramac Ducati star. “I struggled at the beginning to stop the bike, after Moto2 race I think the track is more greasy, but then I start to ride in '48 low.
“Yesterday Bradley beat me by 0.014s to be best Independent rider in qualifying. We even joked before the race in the Clinica, 'Hey you, you f**ked me yesterday but not today!' And after the race, it was the same between us; 'bastard'!” he laughed.
“Bradley's a great friend of mine, one of the best riders here. We fight all the race, I did my best lap with four laps to go and I pushed to stay in front of him. But in the last laps I was scared of crashing because I had no power in my right arm.
“Anyway, I think I did one of my best races because I finished 14-seconds from the lead after 23 laps in my second race of the season. I feel positive and think we can do a good championship. Now I need some training.”
