Marc Marquez claimed his first home Catalunya pole position as a MotoGP rider by a formidable 0.467s from world championship leader Jorge Lorenzo.

Riding on the revised F1 layout, introduced this morning in response to the tragic death of Luis Salom in Friday's Moto2 practice, the Hondas seemed much better suited to the new stop-and-go sections at the end of the lap.

Marquez's Repsol team-mate Dani Pedrosa (+0.718s) completed an all-Spanish front row, with countryman Hector Barbera the top satellite rider in fourth for Avintia Ducati.
