Jorge Lorenzo is drawing strength from last year's victorious MotoGP title comeback, after losing a massive 34-points to Marc Marquez in the last two rounds.

While Marquez has finished the eight events so far - with podiums in all but Le Mans, where he fell - Lorenzo (2) and Yamaha team-mate Valentino Rossi (3) have suffered multiple DNFs.

All of which means Lorenzo starts this weekend's Sachsenring round 24 points behind Marquez. But he fought back from a big points deficit three times during last year's battle with Rossi, a task arguably harder since Rossi was on the same bike.

"Last year on three occasions I was more than 18 points behind, and three times I recovered the points," said Lorenzo, who was 29 points from Rossi after round 3 last season, 23 after round 13 and 18 points after round 15.

"In this championship - with a lot of mistakes and a lot of zeros - everything is possible. Especially now that the Honda looks to struggle a little bit at some tracks. Everything can happen and we can recover in the good tracks for us.

"This is an important weekend because in the last two races we've lost a lot of points. It would be good to finish on the podium here. We'll see about the weather, the feeling with Michelin and the new electronics, and see if we can be more competitive than last year."

Unfortunately for Lorenzo, Sachsenring is one of the few circuits he has never who at in grand prix racing.

"There are some tracks where you are competitive from the beginning and others you struggle more," said the Spaniard. "Sachsenring is one of those. From 125 in 2003 and 2004 it has always been a little harder. In MotoGP I improved and finished second four-years in a row [2009-2012], but then struggled again in the last two years. But I don't lose hope to one day win here and maybe this year will be my time."

Lorenzo also backed Michelin's decision to offer three front tyre options this weekend, including the debut of a new asymmetric design.

"I think it's good to have three different front tyres options," he said. "Let's see tomorrow which will be best for the race. We have a softer than normal and also a harder than normal [tyre], in case the two softer ones create some graining. For sure one will be good for the race."

Lorenzo finished fourth in last year's Sachsenring race.
