MotoGP title leader Marc Marquez hopes improved weather at the Sachsenring will allow him to try a new chassis for his Repsol Honda.

The Spaniard was third fastest during Friday's cold and windy free practice sessions, the first of which was halted by spots of rain.

"Here we have a new chassis, a modification of what we tried at the Montmelo [test]. Today we didn't use it because of the weather conditions, but maybe tomorrow - it is in the plan. The second bike is ready with the new chassis," Marquez revealed.

The double MotoGP champion has raced with a 2014 chassis since Assen last season, but revealed he has already started to use a 'ride-height adjustment' modification to his long-favoured frame.

"This I already race in Assen," he said. "Now [here we have] a small modification also on another part of the [2014] chassis. To try to improve the exit of the corner, which is where we are losing more at the moment."

Commenting on the five accidents seen at the infamous Turn 11 on Friday, Marquez doubted much could be done to make it safer and that the cold temperatures were the main culprit.

"I think this corner will be like this. With Bridgestone, Michelin or another tyre. In the end it is so critical and today the conditions were extremely cold. I don't remember such cold temperatures. Also it was windy, which makes this corner even more difficult. If the temperature goes up it will be safer. But already last year there were many crashes."

Michelin has brought a new asymmetric front tyre to suit the specific Sachsenring challenge, where the fast Turn 11 is one of only three right hand turns.

"Today I used the asymmetric, but only the soft one. So the impressions were good and we will see tomorrow if we have the chance to try the hard asymmetric."

Marquez starts the midway race of the 2016 season 24 points clear of Jorge Lorenzo and 42 in front of Valentino Rossi. The Yamaha riders were left languishing down in 14th (Rossi) and 16th (Lorenzo) respectively on Friday, giving Marquez a further boost in his efforts to claim a seventh Sachsenring victory in a row.

But whatever happens he won't become complacent in terms of the title fight.

"After this race you can be leading the championship, but there is still half of the season left. I remember 2014 when my advantage was very big, but in the second half I crashed at Misano and Aragon. Two races in a row. And I could have lost almost 50 points.

"The good thing about motorbikes is that everything can happen until the end. Of course if you are leading by 20 points or more it is better for you, but you need be honest and the championship is very long."
