Taka Nakagami continued where he left off in practice, pulling out the best lap of the German Moto2 weekend so far to claim pole position at the Sachsenring.

The Japanese Idemitsu Honda Tem Asia rider backed up his Assen victory with a late ltime of 1m 24.274s, which saw him finish ahead of the competition with a new found confidence.

He is joined on the front row by joint championship leaders Johann Zarco and Alex Rins, with Ajo Motorsport's Zarco fairing the better securing second on his birthday.

Rins held on to his front row start in third for Paginas Amarillas HP 40 with just his third lap of the session.

Simone Corsi pushed his Speed Up to the limit to grab fourth in a tight session where the top eighteen were all within a second of the pole time, with many riders looking uncomfortable with their tyres and riding style at the tricky, winding track.

He is joined on row two by Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS rider Franco Morbidelli in fifth after a late scramble for position and Sandro Cortese (Dynavolt Intact GP) the top home rider at the Sachsenring in sixth.

Lorenzo Baldassarri ran a determined session for Forward Racing on his way to seventh, ahead of the newly re-signed Alex Marquez on the second Marc VDS entry in eighth.

Marcel Schrotter was the second German to secure a top ten start for AGR Team, while Sam Lowes looked uncomfortable on his Gresini. The Briton improved his time as the flag waved but not his position and remained tenth at the close and was the lone faller in the session.

Tom Luthi had looked like one to watch but a long spell in the pits with bike issues moved the Garage Plus Interweten man out of contention and down to twelfth after showing strong form in practice.

Luca Marini was the top rookie in 14th for Forward just ahead of rival Miguel Oliviera who was right behind him on the timesheets in 16th.

Dominique Aegerter appeared to be hampered by his injuries pick up in Suzuka 8-hour testing in the break and was way down in 23rd.

Danny Kent takes no further part in the Sachsenring weekend after it was revealed he has broken ribs, having been hurt earlier in the week karting, his condition worsened after a highside and he was then declared unfit to race.
