MotoGP: Loris Baz set to stay at Avintia

Loris Baz is set to stay at the Avintia Ducati team for the 2017 MotoGP season.
Loris Baz is set to stay at the Avintia Ducati team for the 2017 MotoGP season.

With Stefan Bradl no longer in contention, Avintia sources have confirmed to Crash.net that the Frenchman 'will remain'.

However, Baz's machinery is not yet decided.

While team-mate Hector Barbera - seventh and the top Ducati rider in the world championship standings - will definitely upgrade from GP14.2 to 2016 Desmosedicis, talks are continuing over whether Avintia will get another '16 or the GP15 model.

A final decision should be made following meetings with Ducati at the forthcoming Austria round, when the Aspar team should also find out its Ducati machinery.

Baz, who spent his rookie season at Forward Racing, returned to action in Germany after missing three rounds due to a serious foot injury when he was taken down at turn one in Mugello.

Barbera has been fantastic this year, along with Eugene, on the second-string Ducatis. Fair dues to Ducati for providing semi-competitive machinery in good numbers. They make Hondas efforts look half-hearted at best.

So the final Ducati seat is between Hernandez and Laverty at Aspar with Bautista having the other seat, I hope they choose Laverty but I have a feeling that Hernandez's passport may help the decision
