Marc Marquez recovered from a spectacular save to head Austrian GP race winner Andrea Iannone in FP2 at Brno in the Czech Republic on Friday.

The Repsol Honda rider caught a huge slide on his knee at turn 13, moments before he entered pit lane for a fresh change of rubber.

With Jorge Lorenzo taking charge following a lap in 1m 56.228s on his Movistar Yamaha five minutes from the end, Marquez upped his pace with a scorching lap of 1m 55.840s on the RCV to go top.

Iannone, fastest on the factory Ducati in FP1 as his picked up where he left off following his maiden premier class victory in Austria, bumped last year's Brno winner Lorenzo back to third place with a last-gasp lap in 1m 55.944s, finishing the afternoon session only one tenth back on Marquez.

Hector Barbera impressed as he slotted into fourth on the Avintia Ducati ahead of Valentino Rossi, whose best lap of 1m 56.174s left him three tenths down on championship leader Marquez. Rossi had a lap time cancelled by Race Direction for 'exceeding the track limit on turn 14'.

Ducati's Andrea Dovizioso completed the top six on the GSX-RR ahead of Suzuki's Aleix Espargaro, with British rider Bradley Smith (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) splitting the Suzuki machines as he ended FP2 in eighth ahead of Maverick Vinales.

Dani Pedrosa completed the day in 10th place on the second of the factory Repsol Honda machines, eight tenths adrift of team-mate Marquez.

Cal Crutchlow was 11th on the LCR Honda followed by Loris Baz (Avintia Ducati) and Octo Pramac Ducati pair Danilo Petrucci and Scott Redding in 13th and 14th places respectively.

Northern Ireland's Eugene Laverty was 16th on the Aspar Ducati behind Pol Espargaro (Monster Yamaha Tech 3), with Aprilia riders Stefan Bradl and Alvaro Bautista the top 18.

Laverty's team-mate Yonny Hernandez and Tito Rabat on the Marc VDS Honda brought up the rear in FP2.
