Aleix Espargaro's Czech Republic MotoGP came to a dramatic conclusion when he was forced to abandon his burning Suzuki on lap 14 of 22.
The Spaniard, who had been holding sixth place, said: "I struggle a lot in wet conditions this season, but in the last part of warm-up I stopped and we tried something different on the electronic and also the rear part of the bike I felt a lot of grip.
"So in the race I felt really good from the first corner and I was fighting with the top guys. But then the bike start to make strange things with the engine. A lot of engine brake and a lot of noise. No power and suddenly I realised there was fire on the bike so I stopped very quick! We need to understand what happened.
"At the beginning of last year at the first test we had some problem with the engine but last season, all season, was perfect. And this season has been perfect. It's the first engine we broke. Sometimes it can happen in racing.
"I was very comfortable behind Marc and taking a lot of care with the tyres and actually my tyres - OK, I didn't do the last eight laps - looked completely new. So we lost a great opportunity to fight with Marquez today.
"I can't believe what's going on this year. Every single round is something different. I can never do a normal race. The only thing I want is to try to fight for the podium between now and Valencia. So I will try again at Silverstone."
Espargaro will not take part in Monday's official test in order to rest his injured hand. damaged last weekend in Austria. Team-mate Maverick finished the race in ninth.
