This weekend's British Grand Prix will be a landmark moment for the Lowes family, with Alex making his debut in the MotoGP class
and Sam setting his sights on victory in the Moto2 race.
After a four-race gap, Sam returned to the podium last time at Brno, in the kind of wet conditions that could again be a factor this weekend at Silverstone. The Englishman also knows he can be competitive at the former airfield in the dry, having taken pole on the Speed Up chassis one year ago.
Now in the second half of his first and only season on a Gresini Kalex before joining MotoGP with Aprilia next year, Lowes starts this weekend 44 points from championship leader Johann Zarco and 25 points from Alex Rins.
“It's always very nice for me to get to Silverstone for the Grand Prix: there will be many fans to support me and this gives me a great charge," Sam said. "It's a track where I know I can be very competitive: last year I got the pole position and this year the goal is to fight for victory.
"We know we have what it takes to succeed, so we will give our best, trying to have fun. We may encounter variable weather, but it's a possibility that does not bother me: the good performance achieved in Brno in the wet was a nice confidence boost from this point of view, so we are confident whatever the circumstances”.
“The home Grand Prix is without doubt very special for Lowes: it's a situation that normally means greater pressure for a rider, but we are convinced that the home crowd will represent an extra boost for Sam," added team box Fausto Gresini.
"Therefore, we expect him more competitive than ever, convinced that we have all it takes to do very well. After two negative races, in Brno we returned to fight for the top positions: a result that gave us a great confidence boost ahead of this race!”.
