MotoGP Great Britain: Rossi: 'Silverstone fun but demanding'

"I like Silverstone a lot, it's a very fun track but also very demanding" - Valentino Rossi.
Valentino Rossi will be aiming to chip away at Marc Marquez's MotoGP title lead for the third race in succession, this weekend at Silverstone.

The Italian has good memories of the event, the scene of his final 2015 victory, when Rossi turned around a 0.7s dry qualifying deficit to beat countrymen Danilo Petrucci and Andrea Dovizioso in a wet race.

"I have very nice recent memories of Silverstone," Rossi confirmed. "Last year I won a really incredible race in very difficult conditions. I hope that this year there will be nice weather, but from the climatic point of view the English race is very uncertain.

"I like Silverstone a lot, it's a very fun track but also very demanding. This circuit is very long and there are many changes of direction with high speeds. It is important to find a perfect set-up for the bike to be able to suit both the slow and the fast corners.

"We will try to work on all aspects, as we have been doing the entire season to get the best possible result."

The #46 returns to the UK having been impressed by a new Yamaha chassis and swingarm used in the post-race test at Brno, requesting to race the parts as soon as possible as he attempts to cut Marquez's 53-point title lead.

Will Rossi have those developments for this weekend?

While not providing details, team director Massimo Meregalli said some new parts will be available: "We are confident that we can be very competitive, especially since we can use some new items that we tried out at the IRTA test, which have shown to enhance our performance."

Team-mate Jorge Lorenzo, who did not try the new chassis parts, is now six points behind Rossi.

ZeFrenchAngle: Marc can do a Nicky Hayden (whilst being a better rider, of course) - he can finish the season never trying for a win, staying on his bike, getting a Top 4 finish, and clinch the Championship.
The title fight is far from over in my point-of-view , simply because Marquez is riding on the edge all the time. Anything can happen off-track training injuries like what had happened to him last year.

Neal: Marc is riding to smart to blow this lead. Only a mechanical failure will give anyone a chance to beat Marc.
He could easily be injured, and if I were him I'd steer clear of Ianone during races.
