Moto2: Leopard confirms Suter switch, Aegerter alongside Kent

Dominique Aegerter signs as team-mate to Danny Kent as Leopard switch from Kalex to Suter machinery in Moto2.
Leopard Racing has confirmed it will switch from Kalex to Suter machinery in Moto2 next season - and has signed Dominique Aegerter alongside Danny Kent.

The Suter deal was reported by Crash.net at Aragon, but Aegerter's appointment is something of a surprise.

Nevertheless, the move makes sense for the Swiss rider, who claimed his best grand prix results - including a victory - with Suter and has managed just one podium since the CarXpert Interwetten team switched to Kalex in 2015.

“I am very happy with the Suter partnership that will begin in 2017," said Leopard Racing COO Miodrag Kotur. "We have confidence in the know-how and the desire Suter have to be competitive when they return with our riders and our structure.

"Leopard Racing wants to engage deeply in the World Championship and take the necessary steps to fight with the best for the title. Team Manger Stefan Kiefer is already working to strengthen the team with senior technicians.”

Suter – Moto2 constructors' champion in 2010, 2011 and 2012, plus riders' champion with Marc Marquez in 2012 – withdrew from the championship this season citing a lack of interest from top teams, but is making a factory return in 2017.

“Primarily we are looking forward to cooperate with such ambitious and well-structured partners as Leopard and Kiefer," Eskil Suter said of the Leopard partnership. "We have common, high goals and are fortunate to equip with a very strong team with the new Suter MMX2.

"Concerning the return of Domi Aegerter to the Suter Family, we are pleased of course. We know what performance he is capable of.”

Dynavolt Intact (Sandro Cortese and Marcel Schrotter) have already confirmed they will run the new Suter chassis.

Kent's current Leopard team-mate Miguel Oliveira is joining the new KTM Moto2 project in 2017.

Exciting news for Domi Aegerter! I think he really liked Suter, and has never got on with Kalex in the same way. I hope he can get back to his good form next season! But what about PJ Jacobsen? Maybe he should take the ride that Domi is vacating?

I am surprised by this move, as I did not expect Domi Aegerter get the seat at Leopard.. But he is coming home to Suter, so could be just about perfect for him... Shame for PJ not getting the seat, he would be great in that team in my opinion.. My feeling is that he could end at CarXpert now, as this was the first team he was linked with in Moto2...
