MotoGP Japan: Lorenzo chasing 'fantastic' home win for Yamaha

"We need to continue to ride in the best way possible, be competitive and try to win again. It would be fantastic to do that at Yamaha's home grand prix!" - Jorge Lorenzo.
Jorge Lorenzo has his sights firmly set on handing Yamaha a home victory during his final Japanese appearance on an M1.

After spending his entire premier-class career with Yamaha, Lorenzo - who won the Motegi race in 2013 and 2014 - is switching to Ducati next season.

"We now kick off the most different part of the season and maybe the most exciting because we face three races in a row and they are all overseas, so physically and mentally it asks a lot from you," said Lorenzo, who recently drove a Mercedes Formula 1 car.

"On the other hand it is a nice adventure every time we go there. First on the list is Motegi and this track gives me great memories. I love Japan and I like a lot this circuit because of the people and for Yamaha and the other Japanese manufacturers this Grand Prix is so important. This is the real home race!"

With the world championship all but decided in Marc Marquez's favour, Lorenzo - the only team-mate to finish ahead of Valentino Rossi in the MotoGP standings (2010, 2013 and 2015) - will also be aiming to sign-off his Yamaha career by getting the better of the Italian.

Rossi is currently 14 points ahead of Lorenzo, with 100 still available.

"The end of the championship is still quite far away so we need to continue to ride in the best way possible, be competitive and try to win again. It would be fantastic to do that at Yamaha's home grand prix!" said triple world champion Lorenzo

After dominating the early part of the season, Yamaha has gone seven races without a victory.

A Yamaha victory for Lorenzo this weekend might also give the Spaniard added ammunition in the rumoured battle to take part in both of Ducati's post-season tests. Currently speculation suggests Lorenzo has so far only been cleared to ride at Valencia
