MotoGP Valencia: Marquez, Vinales lead the way in warm-up

In cool morning temperatures, Marc Marquez leads morning warm-up; Maverick Viñales, Andrea Dovizioso and Pol Espargaro set similar times.
Having admitted he had no answer to Jorge Lorenzo on Saturday, Marc Marquez appears unwilling to accept second best, as he posted the fastest time in MotoGP morning warm-up.

In cooler temperatures, Marquez was marginally faster than Maverick Viñales, a dark horse for this afternoon's encounter, with Andrea Dovizioso (third) and Pol Espargaro (fourth) also showing well.

If Marquez's time of 1m 31.095s was quick, Viñales wasn't far away, his fastest time just 0.121s off. Dovizioso was half a tenth slower (+0.054s) than the Suzuki GSX-RR, with the younger Espargaro just 0.011s back of the Ducati.

His final day in Ducati colours, Andrea Iannone was fifth fastest, with the Movistar Yamahas of Valentino Rossi (sixth) and Lorenzo following suit. From this evidence, the reigning world champion is happier in warmer temperatures.

Aleix Espargaro was eighth, Bradley Smith ninth and Cal Crutchlow – struggling with a foot injury sustained in Sepang – tenth.

I really wanted to see and hear that AJS out on the track but I couldn't help laughing when I saw the mechanic putting. the drip tray under it. Older ferts that grew up riding English bikes will know why I was amused.

Cannot read anything in this warm-up but 0.276 is the closest Valentino has been to the top all weekend ! Yesterday, after he had taken the flag at the end of FP4, he followed Marc who was still on a timed lap, seemingly to watch how Marc rode the track. Well, in this warm-up, Valentino was sliding his bike around the last but one Turn, a la Marquez, in a way he has not been doing all weekend. Interesting. Jorge was obviously trying a few things. Pol has been brilliant all weekend on this track. And Maverick is hanging around menacingly. The start of THIS race will be mightily important for all the guys in the first two rows.
