Marc Marquez had admitted his "batteries are on the limit" after a hectic post-season period of celebration and sponsorship events deprived him of time to relax, but he heads into the fourth running of the Superprestigio event with aims of winning.

The 23-year old finished a close runner-up to American Brad Baker in 2015 race, and Marquez revealed that he has used flat track less this season, as he felt certain bad habits were translating from the dirt to his MotoGP bike.

Nevertheless Marquez topped the first practice sessions on Friday evening and feels his knowledge of setting up a machine for the short, compact track in the Palau Sant Jordi has improved since a year ago.

"It's a pleasure to be here one more year for the fourth edition," said Marquez - now a three-time MotoGP world champion - on Friday.

"We started four years ago. I said that we must have a high level. Now we're here with ten world champions, the best American rider, the Spanish flat track champion. It's amazing to be here.

"Maybe the normal thing after winning MotoGP would be to go to the Maldivas and relax but I have a big passion for dirt track, off road bikes, motorbikes. Last month was crazy for me, many events and going to Japan. The batteries are already on the limit but it's great to be here in front of all these people and all these champions.

"Honestly this year is the year that maybe I ride dirt track less. I saw last year when I rode a lot in MotoGP I had some habits that were not good. This year I ride less. I need to ride only for technique, not to compete. This week I've ridden three days and I get the feeling again. It's good.

"You're learning to improve the set up. Every year I always learn something from Brad. This year we did another improvement. You see all the bikes are a little higher this year. Everyone follows the American riders and we improve. The lap times are more competitive.

"Of course we will try [to win]. It's a great show and everyone wants to race and enjoy the atmosphere but in the end we want to be on the podium. We will try.

"But in the dirt track race the start is everything. You need to also be lucky. In the races in the end the guy that finishes in front is the best guy. You need a good start, good speed, good battles, so well will see. Of course I will try but we don't know."
