Marc Marquez was the fastest rider in the combined qualifying sessions on Saturday morning for the Superprestigio event in Barcelona, lapping the short 200-metre track marginally faster than the next best man.

Riders are split into two categories for the event: the 'Superprestigio' class, comprising of road-racers (ie. riders from Grand Prix and World Superbike / Supersport), and the 'Open', which sees riders from all off-road disciplines compete against one another.

Marquez was the fastest overall, leading Moto America Superbike star Toni Elias by 0.085s. Tech 3 Moto2 rider Xavi Vierge was third fastest in his category, narrowly ahead of fellow grand prix names Joan Mir, Albert Arenas and Marcel Schrotter.

In the 'Open' category, Thomas Chareyre was the surprise name topping the time sheets. The multiple world Supermoto champion was just over half a tenth of a second slower than Marquez, but could count himself quicker than Spanish Flat Track rider Genis Gelada (second) and Masatoshi Ohmori (third).

American Flat Track star Brad Baker was fourth. Rather than focussing on a fast time, Baker told assembled journalists on Friday evening that consistency was his aim throughout qualifying. He was still just 0.069s off the quickest 'Open' time.

Highly rated Spaniard Ferran Cardus was just behind in fifth, while talented teenager Oliver Brindley - fastest on Friday evening - was sixth.
