Following Valentino Rossi's MotoGP victory at Laguna Seca, Italy is now within striking distance of its 700th grand prix win across all solo classes (500cc/MotoGP, 350cc, 250cc, 125cc, 80cc, 50cc).

Italy now needs just two more victories to achieve that landmark figure, something it could achieve this weekend in Brno should the likes of Rossi and 250ccc title leader Marco Simoncelli win their respective classes.

Italy is by far the most successful nation in grand prix racing having taken 316 victories more than Great Britain, the next most successful nation, even though only three British riders have taken GP wins in the past 20 years!

The recent victories by Mike di Meglio means that France are now equal ninth with Switzerland
