After never finishing higher than sixth in the 250cc class prior to his second place finish at round three, in Portugal, earlier this year, Marco Simoncelli has shown tremendous speed and consistency in the eight races since.

The Italian now leads the 250cc championship standings for the first time in his career, following victory last time out in Germany, having amassed a total of 164 points over the last eight races - more than any other rider across all three classes in this period.

Those points came courtesy of three race victories, three second positions, one third and one fourth. For comparison, the Gilera rider has scored 52 points more than second in the championship Mika Kallio over the same rounds.
