125: Talmacsi eases to provisional pole.

Gabor Talmacsi has taken a provisional pole position for the latest round of the 125cc World Championship after blowing the field away ahead of his adopted home round in the Czech Republic.

With Hungary not on the MotoGP calendar until next season, many of Talmacsi's fans are expected to cross the border to support the reigning 125cc world champion and he didn't disappoint to snatch the top spot by more than seven tenths of a second.

It had initially looked as though Talmacsi would get pole position by virtue of a swift early lap, one that came just as rain began to fall around the Brno circuit.

Nonetheless, ten minutes of little action prompted the circuit to dry and allowed the large field to return to the circuit. From here Talmacsi embarked on a pole position battle with Nico Terol and practice pace setter Andrea Iannone.

However, the Aprilia rider resisted their efforts by consistently lowering his time, eventually pulling ahead by dipping below the 2mins 10secs mark and destroying his opposition heading into final qualifying tomorrow.

Terol was second fastest after edging Iannone – who very nearly fell in the early stages of the session when he ran off at turn one – by a mere thousandth of a second.

Bradley Smith sneaked onto the outside of the front row provisionally in fourth, ahead of championship leader Mike Di Meglio.

Sandro Cortese, Pol Esparcargo, Simone Corsi, Sergio Gadea and Joan Olive rounded out the top ten, while Brits Scott Redding and Danny Webb qualified provisionally 16th and 21st respectively.
