250cc world championship leader Marco Simoncelli bounced back from a small fall to take a wet pole position for Sunday's Czech Republic Grand Prix.

Unlike the 125 and MotoGP classes, the quarter-litre field had experienced wet conditions at Brno on Friday afternoon, and the track was actually in a much quicker state for Saturday's final qualifying session.

Provisional pole sitter Hector Barbera was still on top as the closing minutes of the session began, but Simoncelli shrugged off a small fall - when he saved a near lowside before swerving gently into an air fence - to pull confidently clear by the time the chequered flag was waved.

Barbera dropped a further place to countryman Alex Debon on the very last lap, with Italian Mattia Pasini completing the front row in fourth. Simoncelli's title rival Mika Kallio will start from seventh position.
