Dani Pedrosa has targeted a return to competitiveness at Misano as he bids to put a disastrous few races behind him with a good run in the San Marino Grand Prix.

The Spaniard has scored just one point in the last three races after crashing out in Germany, missing Laguna Seca through injury and then finishing a lowly 15th at Brno as he struggled with his Michelin tyres.

It means the erstwhile championship leader is all but out of title contention as he heads to Misano having falling 65 points behind Valentino Rossi, although he remains a comfortable 52 ahead of fourth placed Jorge Lorenzo.

Refraining from reiterating his displeasure at Michelin's lack of competitiveness, Pedrosa is merely targeting to do somewhat better at Misano than he managed last year when he was knocked off at the first corner.

"I am hoping that we can have a better weekend at Misano, though I had bad luck there last year, another rider knocked me off at the very first corner," he said. "The Misano circuit is quite fast but it feels tight and narrow.

"The grip level is okay; last year we used medium-compound tyres because it was quite hot. The track was also very bumpy last year, which was probably its worst feature. From a set-up point of view the most important thing at Misano is having good braking power and good stability when accelerating out of the corners. It's the kind of track that requires you to ride aggressively."

"My favourite section is the final part, though the most important section for good lap times is the first. The atmosphere is great and it can get quite intense. You get a lot of Valentino Rossi fans there because his hometown is nearby."

Despite his position in the standings, Pedrosa will not switch to the pneumatic-valve Honda, a decision that test rider Tadayuki Okada believes is a missed opportunity. Nonetheless, Pedrosa will stay behind at Misano to try the bike before probably making his debut on it at Indianapolis.
