Dovizioso and Repsol, Spies and JiR.

By Lynne Huntting

The latest from within the Indianapolis paddock is that Andrea Dovizioso will, as expected, take Nicky Hayden's place at Repsol Honda next season.

Hayden confirmed on Thursday that he is leaving Honda and an official announcement that he is joining Ducati seems imminent. Dovizioso will say only that he is looking to go to Repsol, but nothing is signed yet.

Dovizioso currently rides a satellite Honda for JiR Team Scot, although the one-year partnership between JiR and Scot will end this season.

JiR has an option (for another ten days) on triple AMA Superbike champion Ben Spies, riding this weekend as a wild-card for Rizla Suzuki.

But Scot also wants to run a one rider Honda MotoGP outfit next year, and bring its 250cc rider Yuki Takahasi to the premier-class.

"Becoming Pedrosa's teammate next year is the dumbest career move you can ever make." Not if Honda are becoming impatient with his lack of progress. If Dovi does better than him in the early stages you really think Honda will pin everything on Pedrosa? And why would Repsol leave? They did fine for years before he arrived... As Mick Doohan recently said, "Dani Pedrosa's main problem is the people around him". Apparently apart from Puig, he doesn't really have any mates in the Repsol garage, including his team...

i think it's unlikely that nakano will get the third kawa. just from a sponsor's perspective it wouldn't make sense right now. aspar is almost certain to get the third bike, because he brings the money. and that money comes from a spanish sponsor who will want a spanish rider on the bike to have better marketing options. that's why aspar spoke with elias and gibernau. with elias apparently out of a possible aspar kawa deal and gibernau on a duke, the options for aspar are limited. i read somewhere that debon might possibly be his choice now. we'll see. but from what aspar always said, the prime goal for the team would be to have a spanish rider because of the sponsors.
