Nieto retires, ready to run Gibernau?

Pablo Nieto, son of '12+1' world champion Angel Nieto, has announced that he will retire from racing at next weekend's Valencia season finale and concentre on team management.

The 28-year-old has raced in the 125cc class for ten full seasons, claiming one race victory, eight podiums and three pole positions. The Spaniard's highest championship ranking is sixth, in both 2002 and 2004, when he rode an Aspar Aprilia.

Nieto has steered an Onde 2000-backed KTM this season and will join brother Gelete in a management role at the team - which is tipped to graduate to the MotoGP class in 2009, running former double MotoGP World Championship runner-up Sete Gibernau on a fifth Ducati Desmosedici.

The Onde 2000 team's plans are expected to be announced at Valencia.
