Ducati's MotoGP title contender Andrea Dovizioso heads into Sunday's Czech Republic MotoGP in confident mood.

The Italian, who qualified as the top Desmosedici rider in fourth, feels he has a chance to fight with the best in dry or wet conditions.

Opting not to complicate his weekend by trying the new fairing, Dovi singled out his pace on worn tyres as particularly

"On qualifying my lap time was not perfect, but fourth position is really good," he said. "I'm happy about today and the weekend because we worked in the right way and our speed was always quite good.

"Like always in Brno, the drop of the rear tyre after two laps is big, so it is not so easy to manage the slide and traction. After 15 laps the traction makes a big drop. Everybody will struggle on that, it will be the most difficult thing to manage in the race.

"This afternoon we used a very used tyre from the morning and my lap time was quite fast. I can't make a direct comparison because the fastest competitors did a different strategy. They used a new tyre and compared the hard and medium. But overall I think we are in the first group.

"At the moment I think we are five or six riders with a similar pace, so everything can happen especially because tomorrow looks like it will be colder and that will affect the bike. It might also rain. So everything can change.

"But overall, in the wet and the dry, I feel confident. I think we have a chance to fight."

Explaining why he didn't join team-mate Jorge Lorenzo and Pramac's Danilo Petrucci in trying the new 'downforce' fairing this weekend, Dovizioso said:

"If with a new part it is very clear and you know all the details you can put it on and work. But if there is positive and negative, like most of the time, you can lose time during the weekend. And for everyone the time we all have during the weekend is not long enough to work on the bike already.

"We are fighting for the championship, so we took the decision not to take that risk. We were focussed in a different area and I believe it was the right decision. Fortunately we have Monday to work on the fairing in a relaxed way."

Dovizioso starts the second half of the season holding third in the world championship, but just six points from title leader Marc Marquez, who qualified on pole at Brno.

Personally I'd like Dovi to win and then go on to take the championship. He deserves to.
