Reale Avintia Racing remains the only MotoGP team yet to confirm either of its riders for the 2018 season.

Rumours at the Red Bull Ring in Austria suggest both Hector Barbera and Loris Baz are facing a fight to retain their satellite Ducati seats.

The two names hotly tipped as in contention are Tito Rabat (currently at Marc VDS) and Xavier Simeon (currently Tasca Racing in Moto2).

Both are reported to be capable of bringing significant money, especially Simeon, off the podium since his victory in the 2015 German Moto2 Grand Prix.

Baz is 15th in the world championship on a GP15-spec machine, with Barbera ranked 20th on the GP16.

Rabat is 18th in MotoGP and Simeon 16th in Moto2.

Simeon! Seriously? A resonable 2015 (1 win and 1 2nd) but then nothing this year or last year. There are better choices surely.

$$$$$

Simeon also has some experience on 1000cc bikes as he was stock 1000 champion. He's never gotten the hang of the smaller bikes and I'm sure he'll do better again on the bigger bikes.

That being said, in this sport and business, money talks

Rabat ? are they serious ?

No, but they seem to appreciate money if they are even considering Rabat.

Rabat is perhaps the best Moto2 rider ever due to his maniac like training principles with moto2 bikein his active time. He clearly was able to more than compensate his lack of super talent with ferocious training.

In MotoGP that tactic doesn't work and you need more talent to ride those superfast bikes than Rabat has now or will ever have. I was sceptical of the MotoGP leap for the best Moto2 rider for previous reasons and the last 1,5 seasons have proved the result have been even worse than expected. Rabat is clearly lost and it is not about riding HRC bike. The only way nowadays he can make a lap is circulate around the track and try to find a tow from Marc, Dani or Maveric for a one fast lap.

Can't fault this statement, always thought the thing that would be Tito's undoing would be the being unable to ride a million laps of Almeria for training purposes, and it does appear to be the case.

Seems it's just money that talks, I need to play the Euromillions - win that and even I could have my name in the ring lol

None of them deserves to be in motogp next year,

Simeon has done nothing remarcable and Tito has already been given the chance.

Anyway, Barbera had a very good season last year, but results matter and he's done nothing this season with the competitive GP16, and Baz has been around with no significant results. So it's fair to assume Avintia is looking to replace both. But choices tell they are not looking at performace. Sad.

Barbera is struggling this year (as is Redding) because the 2016 bike was designed to work with the wings they no longer have. It's a bit pot luck if it works (conditions are just right) where they go but in most cases it doesn't.

Why not Tom luthi?
