Jorge Lorenzo will be looking to convert his second front row start for Ducati into a second podium in Sunday's Austrian MotoGP.

As Lorenzo had predicted, hot on the heels of an impressive Brno weekend he was able to close-in on his rivals after more track time to set-up the GP17 and adapt his riding style to the Red Bull Ring circuit.

The Spaniard eventually lapped 0.386s from Honda pole sitter Marc Marquez and just 0.242s behind Ducati team-mate Andrea Dovizioso.

"I believe good things come for a reason, no? If you are working well and feeling better, sooner or later you are fast," Lorenzo said. "That's what we confirmed at the Brno weekend, especially at the Monday test, where we clearly made a step forward.

"Here has not been easy, because on Friday morning we were far. But little-by-little we improved the bike, I improved my riding and finally - even if I didn't make the perfect lap - I made a really quick set of three laps in a row, which will be very important for tomorrow.

"I think my consistency and my riding is always very precise in this track. I don't drop so much the pace and this is good for tomorrow. Anyway we have to reconfirm our expectations on Sunday. That is the most important. But I can say that we are in the right way."

Lorenzo, who led the early stages of last Sunday's Czech Republic Grand Prix before a lengthy bike swap, feels he is benefiting more than most from the new Ducati 'downforce' fairing.

"Obviously for my riding style the new fairing affects me more than other riders and gives me more benefit than others," he said. "So this is a good point. But not only that, we are working in different areas that give me more feeling. Also I'm gaining more knowledge of riding this bike, especially with old tyres. I'm being more consistent, little-by-little, even though we still have to improve the braking to get in amongst the leading positions at every circuit.

"I’m very pleased because it’s the first time this year that both Ducati riders are on the front row, which demonstrates our excellent potential on this track. As for the race Marquez is looking really strong, but tomorrow many things can happen and the choice of the rear tyre will be fundamental.”

Marquez's slick faired Honda will be more fuel efficient at this circuit than the drag artist Ducatis. Expect them to slow down at the end.

True for JL. Not for Dovi.
