Thailand is set to be officially confirmed as joining the 2018 MotoGP calendar, at a contract signing in Bangkok on Thursday.

The long-rumoured event will be held at Buriram, venue for the Thai WorldSBK round, from 2018 to 2020.

The exact date of the inaugural MotoGP race should also be confirmed.

The event is expected to be linked with the Japan-Australia-Malaysia triple-header, with Thai media previously reporting it is scheduled for October 5-7 (the first of the 'flyaways').

An official 2018 pre-season test is also set to be held at the track, in February, instead of Phillip Island.

Dorna Sports CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta will be joined by Sakon Wannapong, the Governor of Sport Authority of Thailand, for the signing of the contract.

Thailand will be the only new event on the 2018 calendar, with Finland confirmed as joining in 2019.

Not sure that's good news... From memory it's a stultifyingly dull track. Still, I guess it's the riders that make the race in the end.

Well, it was designed by Tilke, famed for many tedious F1 tracks. WSBK have been there a couple of times and various reviews of the facilities and access on Tripadvisor are generally very good. Cheap as well.

That's the trouble, I can't tell if it was WSB that makes the track look dull or whether it's just dull.

yeah remember Rossi commented similarly this circuit is boring, not many corners etc during a press conference. if there is not many overtaking op defenitely it will be dull. Before Austrain GP, I would have easily thought such ttracks will just suite Ducati. But now Hondas are also good in acceleration. Hopefully it will not be dull in the end.

So apart from the dull comments how is this going to fit into the GP CALENDER? I say THAILAND in OCTOBER then JAPAN followed by OZ? Then SEPANG before you finish in VALENCIA SPAIN! The reason is the THAILAND and SEPANG do not want to be next door to each other on the GP CALENDER, else the crowd attendance would be down etc.

Cheers Ajay.
